About The Role
We are looking for reliable part-time Water Sampling Field Technicians to collect water samples at commercial and institutional sites in New York State. This role is a strong fit for students, recent graduates, or early-career candidates in environmental science, environmental health, biology, chemistry, public health, engineering, EHS, clinical laboratory science, or related fields.
This is detail-heavy work. A missed label, wrong bottle, incomplete chain-of-custody form, or late sample can invalidate the work.
Location: Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx, Northport / Long Island
Primary Responsibilities
- Collect water samples for Legionella, SPS, metals, pH, HPC, and related water quality testing, as assigned
- Follow written sampling procedures exactly and ask for direction when site conditions do not match the sampling plan
- Label bottles and complete chain-of-custody documentation accurately
- Record field information such as sample location, date, time, temperature, field readings, and site conditions
- Take clear photos of sampling locations when required
- Test and record the following parameters at each sampling station:temperature, pH and biocide level
- Pack samples properly for transport and maintain sample integrity
- Deliver samples to the lab, courier point, or designated drop-off location within required timelines
- Communicate professionally with site contacts, building staff, facility managers, security desks, and internal coordinators
- Report access issues, delays, deviations, safety concerns, or possible sampling errors immediately
- Maintain sampling supplies, coolers, PPE, labels, and field forms
Ideal Candidate
- Student, recent graduate, or early-career professional in environmental science, environmental health, biology, chemistry, public health, engineering, EHS, clinical lab science, or a related field
- Reliable, punctual, careful, and comfortable following detailed instructions
- Comfortable visiting commercial buildings, utility areas, mechanical rooms, rooftops, basements, and similar field locations when access is provided
- Able to follow checklists and written procedures without improvising
- Comfortable using a phone or tablet for forms, photos, and communication
- Prior lab, field, healthcare, food safety, EMS, facilities, building operations, or environmental experience is helpful but not required
Requirements
- Availability during weekday business hours
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Reliable transportation strongly preferred for regional routes and Long Island/Northport work
- Comfortable using public transit where appropriate for NYC sites
- Ability to carry sample coolers and supplies, generally up to 25-40 pounds
- Professional communication skills
- Ability to complete paid training and follow company SOPs before solo field assignments
Expected Coverage
- Syracuse monthly SPS sampling
- Syracuse quarterly Legionella sampling
- Buffalo and Batavia quarterly Legionella sampling
- Additional backup, resampling, or emergency response work may be available
Compensation and Expenses
- Hourly pay based on assigned location, experience, and applicable contract requirements
- For SCA-covered work, wages and required fringe benefits will be paid in accordance with the applicable wage determination and contract requirements
- Approved mileage, tolls, parking, transit, and other authorized field expenses are reimbursed according to company policy
- Paid training is provided
