Hours: 7:00am – 3:00pm, Monday – Friday; 40 hours
Location: Water Pollution Control, 999 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Plantsville, CT 06479
Grade/Rate: Grade 3, Operator in Training ~ $32.52 hr. Grade 4, Operator I ~ $34.33 hr. Grade 7, Operator II ~ $38.39 hr. Grade 8, Operator III ~ $39.69 hr.
All Operators perform the same tasks. Hourly wages will be determined by State of Connecticut Wastewater License.

Position Summary:
WPC Operator perform the day-to-day tasks that keep the plant functioning. Some of these tasks include loading sludge trucks, operating the RDT for sludge thickening, and doing road work. All operators perform the same duties, and pay is based upon the level of state certification that the operator has achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs sewer line maintenance including jetting, vacuuming, TV inspections etc.
- Performs housekeeping tasks at the treatment plant and pump stations including sweeping, mopping, washing, dusting, painting, etc.
- Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels. Documents readings and observes variations in operating conditions.
- Collects sludge samples for lab analysis.
- Performs tank and channel maintenance such as cleaning and painting.
- Operates and drives automotive and mechanical equipment such as jet/vac truck, TV inspection vehicle, forklifts, skid steer, etc.
- Operates sludge thickening processes and polymer feed systems.
- Operates valves, pump engines, and generators manually or by remote control.
- Performs ground maintenance such as snow removal, mowing, trimming, etc.
- Monitors the loading of liquid sludge to tanker trucks.
- Lubricates motors and other equipment.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance work as directed.
- Performs routine simple laboratory tests.
- Occasionally works under unpleasant conditions, including fumes and odors.
- Opens manholes to gain access to wastewater collection system.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
- Must be able to possess a State of Connecticut Wastewater Operator I license within 1year of hire date. (For Operator in Training)
- State of Connecticut CDL Class B License with tanker endorsement within 1 year after being hired
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to and including 50 pounds.
- Must be able to walk on uneven ground.
- Must be able to climb and descend ladders.
- Ability to work outside for lengths of time during severe heat and cold weather.
