The San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) is dedicated to the development, conservation, and protection of vital water resources of the San Jacinto River basin. Position Summary
The Entry Level Water/Wastewater Engineer (Graduate Engineer 1) will support SJRA’s mission and operating divisions through a variety of engineering and non-engineering tasks. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills under the guidance and oversight of experienced engineers. The position involves data collection, engineering analysis, project coordination, and gaining familiarity with raw water, potable water, and wastewater infrastructure.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for the planning, development, operation, and maintenance of SJRA's operating divisions, including Lake Conroe, Flood Management, Highlands, The Woodlands, and GRP Divisions.
- Under supervision, collect and analyze data, perform engineering calculations, draft technical reports, and assist in the preparation of project scope documents.
- Assist with in-house development of design drawings, cost estimates, and specifications for select projects.
- Perform contract management tasks, such as administration, monitoring, review, and oversight of professional and construction services contracts.
- Review technical documents, permit applications, and cost estimates to ensure compliance with SJRA standards, budget requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Acquire knowledge of industry software applications (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Infoworks ICM, WaterGEMS) and technical procedures for hydraulic modeling, exhibit/drawing preparation, and project documentation.
- Observe construction and maintenance activities to deepen knowledge of SJRA’s infrastructure systems.
- Participate in professional societies to continue education and stay informed about emerging technologies in water resources engineering.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college/university. Degrees in Civil, Environmental, or Agricultural Engineering are preferred.
- Ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification within 1 year of employment.
- Valid Texas Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
Skills And Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and other technical documents.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Project).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work well in a team environment.
