Position Summary
The
Water/Wastewater Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of water and wastewater systems, including treatment, supply, transmission, distribution, and/or wastewater collection, conveyance, treatment, and disposal. This role ensures compliance with state and federal regulations while performing a variety of tasks, including grounds maintenance, operational procedure development, and data reporting. The WO Utility Operator plays a key role in supporting the Authority’s mission to maintain reliable and safe water and wastewater systems.
Key Responsibilities
- System Operations: Operate and maintain water treatment and wastewater systems, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and maintaining system efficiency.
- Maintenance Management: Use the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system for work order management, inventory control, and maintenance procedures. Assess the effectiveness of the system and recommend necessary improvements or equipment replacements.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately document maintenance activities, organize records, and file reports in the EAM system for future reference and compliance.
- SCADA System Monitoring: Utilize SCADA data and physical checks to evaluate system pressures, equipment operation, and instrument readings. Advise the Lead Operator on any necessary process adjustments for optimal performance.
- General Labor & Equipment Maintenance: Perform general housekeeping tasks, including cleaning equipment, facilities, and grounds. Conduct preventive maintenance, lubrication, and minor adjustments on equipment.
- Vehicle & Equipment Operation: Operate Authority vehicles and equipment for the transport of materials and equipment between facilities.
- Sampling & Testing: Conduct routine and non-routine field and laboratory tests, including chemical, physical, and biological sampling, to ensure proper process and disinfection adjustments.
- Inventory & Supplies: Track inventory levels and order necessary chemicals and supplies for plant operations.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Certifications & On-Call Rotation: Obtain and maintain required certifications in water and wastewater operations. Once dual-certified, participate in on-call rotations for both water and wastewater systems as needed.
- Essential Personnel: As primary essential personnel, this role requires the individual to work during emergency events, in preparation for emergencies, or during recovery efforts as directed by supervisors.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent – Required
Experience Requirements
- 2+ Years of Experience in utility operations
- 1+ Year of progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems
Certifications & Licenses
- Texas Driver’s License with an insurable driving record – Required
- TCEQ Class C Wastewater Operator Certification – Required
- TCEQ Class C Groundwater Operator Certification – Required
