Supervisor - Wastewater Treatment Description Performs complex skilled technical work overseeing the operations of a wastewater treatment unit on an assigned shift, ensuring compliance with client, State and Federal regulations and safety requirements, scheduling and training personnel, preparing and maintaining reports and logs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under limited supervision. Continuous supervision is exercised over Wastewater Treatment Unit Operators. Examples of Duties Supervises wastewater treatment operators; assigns, directs, trains, and inspects the work of staff; disciplines, coaches, counsels, and evaluates staff performance; verifies staff time sheets and PTO usage. Ensures compliance with operating permit requirements; analyzes data to determine proper operating conditions. Participates in the operations, maintenance, and repair of equipment by monitoring and adjusting plant processes during assigned shifts; assists with startup and shutdown of equipment; makes minor emergency repairs. Keeps logs of shift activities, checks operator log sheets, monitors operational and laboratory/sample reports, enters data into database; prepares reports for management and to comply with regulations. Conducts unit-wide area safety inspections and OSHA safety training sessions and investigates accidents. Monitors and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves, and other equipment to meet changing operational conditions. Meets with management for operations planning purposes and assists management in the preparation of budget and other planning functions. Keeps abreast of changes in the field by attending client meetings, etc. Typical Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: Associate/Technical degree in environmental science, chemistry, or related field and extensive progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations including supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience . Licenses and/or Certifications: Requirements; Masters Degree Education: Degree major must be in chemistry, biology, engineering, microbiology, bacteriology, or another similar discipline. Work Experience: Four (4) years of "hands-on" experience in water treatment or similar. OR Bachelor's Degree Education: Degree major must be in chemistry, biology, engineering, microbiology, bacteriology, or another similar discipline. Work Experience: Five (5) years of "hands-on" experience in water treatment or similar. OR High School/Diploma Education: High School diploma or GED. Work Experience: Eight (8) years experience in water treatment operations, six (6) of which must be "hands-on". Valid driver's license. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment practices, methods, and related equipment, including water testing equipment and safety precautions. Good knowledge of the local and state regulations governing wastewater treatment operations. Skill in operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems. Supervisory, interpersonal, communication and computer skills. Ability to pass a red and green color blindness test.
