Operator - Wastewater Treatment
Description
Monitor and maintain the equipment and processes essential for treating process wastewater, guaranteeing it meets the stringent standards for the client and public health and safety. Candidate should have a solid technical background, unwavering attention to detail, and the prowess to analyze and troubleshoot any challenges that may surface during the water treatment process. Performs skilled technical work operations of a wastewater treatment unit on an assigned shift, preparing and maintaining reports and logs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under moderate supervision from the Shift Supervisor however candidate should be capable of operating over periods with no direct supervision. Continuous supervision is exercised over Wastewater Treatment Unit Assistants.
Examples of Duties
- Operate and monitor water treatment equipment and processes to ensure the delivery of treated water to client specifications.
- Perform regular inspections and tests on water samples to monitor the quality of treated water, including turbidity, and other parameters.
- Adjust treatment processes and equipment settings as necessary to maintain compliance.
- Maintain accurate water treatment unit operations records, including daily logs, test results, chemical usage, and maintenance activities.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on water treatment equipment, such as pumps, valves, filters, and chemical feed systems.
- Analyze data and trends to identify issues or potential improvements in the water treatment process and implement necessary corrective actions.
- Ensures compliance with operating permit requirements; analyzes data to determine proper operating conditions.
- Respond to emergencies or equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize disruption to the water treatment process and prevent any impact on operations.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in water treatment technology and regulations to ensure continuous improvement in plant operations.
- Leads operations, maintenance, and repair of equipment by monitoring and adjusting plant processes during assigned shift; leads startup and shutdown of equipment; makes minor emergency repairs.
- Conducts unit-wide area safety inspections and OSHA safety training sessions and investigates accidents.
- Monitors and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves, and other equipment to meet changing operational conditions.
- Meets with onsite supervisor for operations planning purposes.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Requirements;
- Bachelor's Degree
- Education: Degree major must be in chemistry, biology, engineering, microbiology, bacteriology, or another similar discipline.
- Work Experience: Two and a half (2.5) years of "hands-on" experience in water treatment or similar.
- OR High School/Diploma
- Education: High School diploma or GED.
- Work Experience: Five (5) years experience in water treatment operations, three (3) of which must be "hands-on".
- Valid driver's license.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment practices, methods, and related equipment, including water testing equipment and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of the local and state regulations governing wastewater treatment operations.
- Experience in operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
- Ability to pass a red and green color blindness test.
