Westchester County’s Department of Environmental Facilities is actively seeking a Sewer and Water Maintenance Director to oversee and manage a large team handling daily operations, equipment repairs and safety compliance for extensive water and wastewater collection systems.
The Wastewater & Water Division operates facilities that treat wastewater and supply clean drinking water to District residents. More than 45 billion gallons of district wastewater a year are processed through seven water resource recovery facilities, 42 wastewater pumping stations, and 194 miles of trunk sewers and force mains. Water District #3, managed by the Division, supplies ten billion gallons of drinking water annually to District residents utilizing technologies such as three ultraviolet treatment facilities, and 4 water pumping stations.
Core responsibilities include managing the repair and upkeep of water lines, sewer mains, pump stations and treatment facilities including responding to emergency situations such as system failures, main breaks or sewer overflows. Ensuring all systems meet safety and environmental regulations is essential. The incumbent will also participate in planning future infrastructure upgrades, and capital maintenance projects in the trunk system and pump stations to ensure that budget constraints are not exceeded and that contract and engineering standards are met.
The successful candidate would have progressively responsible experience in large plumbing or sewer construction projects, engineering, water distribution and/or wastewater operations. Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operations, reading engineering blueprints and maintenance of sanitary sewers, water mains and water or wastewater treatment plants. Professional Engineering license a plus!
Special Requirements
Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation(s) 1910.132-140 - Personal Protective Equipment, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety while in the title.
