: General Duties:
This is technical work involving the operation and maintenance of the Towns potable (drinking) water treatment plant and pumping, storage tank, pressure regulating and groundwater well facilities. Persons assigned to this class are considered apprentice operators and are supervised by trained operators or supervisory personnel. Performs general operational and maintenance assignments on buildings, grounds and equipment at the potable (drinking) water treatment plant, groundwater well facilities, pumping stations, storage tank and pressure regulating facilities. Inspects, cleans and lubricates equipment such as pumps, motors, switchgear, generators and other plant and facility equipment or machinery. Makes periodic and scheduled readings and interprets gauges, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, meters and control panels of treatment plant, well, pumping station, storage tank and pressure regulating equipment. Maintains and completes shift logs, records meter and gauge readings. Completes reports related to water production, water quality, power consumption and the use of treatment chemicals and other consumable supplies.
Additional Duties
Operates plant machinery, including special gates, valves, engines and pumps relating to the control of flows and chemical treatment of water. Operates and performs relatively complex maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment, including pumps and switchgear, power generator equipment, chemical feed pumps, jet flash mixer, instrumentation systems and related equipment. Assists in the cleaning of tanks and facilities related to water treatment and residues.
Observes variations in plant operating conditions and performs process control adjustments under the direction of the Chief Operator, the Water Treatment and Pumping Supervisor or Level II Water Treatment and Pumping Operators. Conducts water quality sampling and performs routine or specialized laboratory analyses as directed. Performs custodial functions and other related work as required or assigned. May be subject to rotational shift work as assigned and emergency calls.
