SPC is seeking a motivated Mid-Level Natural Resources Scientist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Project Managers and senior technical staff to support natural resource investigations, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance efforts for infrastructure and development projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct natural resource field investigations including wetland delineations, stream assessments, habitat evaluations, and other environmental surveys
- Support environmental permitting efforts for infrastructure and development project
- Assist with preparation of permit applications and supporting documentation for federal, state, and local agencies
- Prepare technical reports, field documentation, and environmental compliance documentation
- Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, and environmental specialists to support project delivery
- Communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies during project planning and permitting phases
- Support jurisdictional determinations and coordination with regulatory agencies
- Maintain accurate field notes, logs, reports, and project documentation
- Assist with project scheduling, task coordination, and tracking permitting timelines
- Utilize GIS and other tools to support mapping, data collection, and environmental analysis
- Identify and troubleshoot field conditions or regulatory issues encountered during project execution
- Mentor and provide guidance to entry-level staff during field activities
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Perform additional duties as needed to support project and team success
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, Ecology, or a related field
- 5–8 years of experience in natural resources, environmental permitting, or regulatory compliance
- Experience conducting wetland delineations and natural resource surveys
- Knowledge of environmental regulations including Clean Water Act Sections 404/401, NEPA, and Endangered Species Act
- Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies such as USACE, USFWS, or state environmental agencies
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Familiarity with GIS software and environmental data collection tools
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Solid reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
