Job Description
Position Purpose:
Under Supervision, performs skilled work to operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment on a day-to-day basis.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs minor preventative and corrective maintenance duties
- Records plant operations data.
- Adjusts plant operation to specified parameters.
- Collects samples and performs routine sample analysis.
- Operates valves, pumps, motors, and other related equipment.
- Reports operation changes and problems to supervisor.
- Performs cleaning an upkeep of plant grounds, building, vehicles, and equipment.
- Maintains plant logs during assigned work hours.
- Reports inoperable equipment to supervisors.
- May perform basic lab analyses such as total solids, suspended solids, total coliform, pH, DO, etc.
- May perform routine maintenance functions such as checking oil/grease levels, lubrication, and minor/routine repairs.
- Maintain effective working relations with plant personnel, clients, EOS staff, and the public.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.
Work Environment:
- Required to work around raw sewage and hazardous chemicals.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- One (1) year of experience in industrial or domestic wastewater treatment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment practices and principles.
- Ability to work overtime as assigned.
- Knowledge of basic lab testing related to wastewater treatment.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Courses in wastewater treatment are highly desirable.
- Must possess and appropriate level of state certification.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Ohio driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to carry, lift, and load bags of chemicals that weigh from 50 to in excess of 100 pounds.
- Perform strenuous physical activity which include: crouching, stooping, kneeling, shoveling snow, mowing grass, climbing ladders to heights in excess of 20 feet, extensive climbing of stairs while carrying tools and equipment, installing/removing electric sump and gasoline trash pups that weigh from 75 to in excess of 100 pounds in tanks and pits and carry, install and remove portable sampling equipment that weigh in excess of 50 pounds in the plants and in manholes.
- Ability to enter and work in confined spaces, including manholes, while wearing self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Required to work on your feet for extended periods of time and to perform extensive walking.
