JOB
The Water Production Operator I/II/III performs a variety of tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of domestic production facilities, agricultural pumping and storage facilities, and reclaimed water storage and pumping facilities in the Water Production Division of the Water Operations Department. The successful candidate may be appointed at any level, and appointment is dependent upon qualifications and experience. WESA is seeking a certified operator who is enthusiastic, eager to learn, efficient, detail-oriented, and organized, who possesses the ability to work under steady pressure and to effectively communicate in a professional manner.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The Ideal Candidate: · Will act with integrity and in accordance with the accepted ethical standards of the District and applicable laws and regulations.· Will learn the basic operation of the water distribution system including potable, recycled, and agricultural systems, as well as learn and understand the operation of the District’s two treatment plants. · Within the first 6 months, the selected candidate must be proficient in the daily operations related to the site checks and production runs. This will include being able to complete each run independently with only minor coaching from senior staff and include completing all the associated paperwork accurately. · Must be able to respond within a thirty (30) minute time period to the District while on standby duty, must be able to work weekend shifts on a regular basis, and may also be required to respond to emergency callout situations on nights and weekends.· Possesses an education level equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in water treatment and distribution or a related field.· Must possess a valid, appropriate California Driver’s License.Water Production Operator I: · Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in the operation of a water treatment plant and/or distribution system to be classified as a Water Production Operator I; · Must possess a valid Water Distribution Operator Grade D1 Certificate and a valid Water Treatment Operator Grade T1 Certificate, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.Water Production Operator II: · Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation of a water treatment plant and/or distribution system to be classified as a Water Production Operator II;· Must possess a valid Water Distribution Operator Grade D2 Certificate and a valid Water Treatment Operator Grade T2 Certificate, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.Water Production Operator III: · Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the operation of a water treatment plant and/or distribution system to be classified as a Water Production Operator III;· Must possess a valid Water Distribution Operator Grade D3 Certificate and a valid Water Treatment Operator Grade T3 Certificate, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Typically, a Water Production Operator may be considered for advancement to the next higher classification level after demonstrating proficiency to perform all the major duties assigned to the class, in addition to meeting other predetermined criteria, as set forth in the job description.
