Responsibilities
The Water Treatment Plant Supervisor oversees efficient and compliant operations and maintenance of the City of Dayton’s water treatment facilities, ensuring adherence to all City, Ohio EPA, and regulatory standards. This role manages all operational and maintenance shifts for a 24/7 operation at one of three facilities: the Miami Treatment Plant, Ottawa Treatment Plant, or Lime Reclamation Facility.
Responsibilities include serving as the back-up Operator of Record per Ohio EPA OAC 3745-7, supervising laboratory testing to adjust water treatment chemical dosages, managing chemical and equipment inventories, and coordinating equipment installation and maintenance projects. The Supervisor enforces safety protocols, conducts safety training, oversees facility security, and ensures proper use of SCADA and other computer network systems. The position also requires preparing reports, responding to alarms, and ensuring operational efficiency and regulatory compliance in all plant processes.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Hydrology or related field and 2 years of experience (one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity) in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment or lime reclamation plant; OR Associate's degree in any of the above fields and 5 years of experience (one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity) in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment or lime reclamation plant; OR High School diploma (or G.E.D) and 8 years of experience (one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity) in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment or lime reclamation plant.
Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.
License Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Special Requirements
Must possess an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Water Supply Class II Operator's certification at time of appointment. Must obtain an Ohio (OEPA) Water Supply Class III Operator’s certification within 36 months of appointment and maintain as a term and condition of continued employment.

Background Check
A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
