Description of Work
Environmental Health Regional Specialists (EHRS) train and/or authorize Environmental Health Specialists (EHS) employed by LHDs as agents of the State and assist those personnel in public health protection through consistent and fair implementation of the rules governing private drinking water wells and on-site wastewater treatment and dispersal systems. This position would be responsible for program reviews at local health departments (LHDs), mid-career training at LHDs, as well as all aspects of field training and preparing EHS and EHS Interns (EHSi) for Delegation of Authority in program areas in OSWP. This position will work closely with LHDs to help implement necessary program components to comply with rules and statutes governing private drinking water wells and on-site wastewater treatment and dispersal systems.

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Demonstrated experience with permitting, construction, inspection, operation and maintenance of onsite wastewater treatment and dispersal systems and private drinking water supply wells.
- Proven experience with soils, geology and hydrogeology as related to installation of private drinking water wells and on-site wastewater systems.
- Strong experience with performing wastewater treatment processes and utilizing technologies used in decentralized settings.
- Working experience with presenting technical and non-technical information to internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated experience with composing clear and grammatically correct written correspondence and written reports.
Management Preferences
Experience working in or with local health department On-Site Water Protection Environmental Health Programs.
Physical Requirements
Walk long distances through rough terrain during all types of weather and may be exposed to insects, snakes, chemicals, fumes, and machinery
Perform light to strenuous physical activity and lift up to 50 pounds;

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution with coursework in physical and biological sciences and three years of professional experience in environmental health;
