PAY & BENEFITS:
Full Range: $60,290 - $91,280
In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Description:
The purpose of this classification is to supervise and direct shift operators and assume responsibility for the direction of duties and actions of subordinates. Duties and responsibilities include: assessing and properly operating all process equipment, above and below ground level; performing all necessary operational and maintenance duties of the water treatment plant; operating computer using a windows environment, use spreadsheets, word processors, and utilizing computerized SCADA system. Reports to WTP Assistant Manager
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. - Supervises and participates in the operation and basic maintenance of all water treatment plant equipment.
- Monitors plant operations regularly for proper operation and treatment. Make any changes needed as per the plant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Recognizes and diagnoses plant status. Troubleshoots and performs corrective actions in plant operations as directed by the SOP to ensure finished water quality meets or exceeds the standards of EPA and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
- Maintains knowledge of and ability to perform all necessary laboratory work required for observation and control of the water treatment plant in order to meet treatment plant, State and Federal regulations and supervise and train others in these duties.
- Supervises and performs basic maintenance of equipment related to operations of the water treatment plant including calibration of feeders and instruments, repair feeders, pumps and etc.
- Trains, motivates, assigns, and inspects work and supervises shift operators.
- Evaluates performance of operations personnel and assists in preparing performance appraisals and disciplinary action as needed.
- Operates Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
- Supervises and performs plant calculations for chemical dosages, chemical usage, flow rates, detention time, and all other calculations necessary for the proper operation of the water treatment plant.
- Creates, enters, and updates files on computer for preparing reports, spreadsheets, historical information, maintenance records and letters and supervise others to do so.
- Maintains sanitary cleanliness of work areas, the treatment plant and associated facilities. Focuses on areas directed by assistant manager.
- Maintains records in compliance to Federal, State and City regulations.
- Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State and City regulations. Reports any accidents immediately to supervisor.
- Correctly wears appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
- Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on customer’s perception of the Town of Smyrna.
- Promotes the teamwork environment. Assist coworkers when necessary.
- Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with a background in algebra.
- Must possess a valid Tennessee Grade 4 Water Treatment Certification.
- Must have a minimum of 12 months experience as a certified Grade 4 Operator.
- Must have an active telephone number for 24-hour contact.
- Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
