Starting Salary Range: $50,983.00 - $60,687.00

Examples Of Work To Be Performed

Record and monitor water supply and storage and be aware at all times of needs and demands on the system.
Maintain bacteriological water quality records as required by the TCEQ.
Understand and follow proper laboratory safety and operating procedures.
Get water distribution and daily bacteriological samples using strict standard operating procedures.
Monitor operations and processes to ensure that local, state, and federal regulations are met, and water quality is maintained.
Perform various chemical and biological testing and analysis as required by various agencies and prepare and maintain accurate logs and records related to quality and quantity.
Understand and follow proper safety and operating procedures.
Identify, diagnose and correct problems relating to the treatment processes including making chemical dosage, raw flow, and pump changes.
Assist in performing treatment plant and pump station maintenance or repairs as needed.
Respond to customer complaints and retain detailed records of each account.
Understand and conform to the policies and directives as established by the Director, City Manager, and City Council.
Perform other duties as required.

Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities

Elevated knowledge and experience related to the operations of a surface water treatment plant and distribution system including correct chemical dosages and proper analytical testing procedures.
General knowledge of storing, handling, pumping and containing hazardous chemicals used in the water treatment process and the safety equipment and procedures specific to each substance.
Ability to identify and diagnose treatment process problems and alert appropriate officials of items which are considered problems affecting water supply and public safety.
Ability to read and effectively communicate with superiors and subordinates regarding directives and assignments.
Good math, logic, and reasoning skills.
Ability to use a personal computer including word processing and spreadsheets.
Familiar with SCADA systems
Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations for the proper reporting, operation, and maintenance of a surface water treatment plant and distribution system.
Ability to maintain accurate and comprehensive records that document the status and performance of the treatment plant and distribution system.
Ability to perform duties other than those previously listed as may be required.

Required Education, Training And Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.
Class “C” Surface Water Treatment Operator’s License issued by the State of Texas.
Evidence of the experience, knowledge, skill, ability, and responsibility necessary to perform tasks and ensure public safety through safe drinking water and adequate supply.

Desired Training And Experience

Additional training or experience in related field.

The physical activity of this position include:

Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, fencing, walls and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Ability includes moving through small spaces such as windows and other crawlspaces.
Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Must be able to pull at least 180 lbs. in a dragging motion.
Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
Fingering. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

The physical requirements of this position

Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position

The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures typically below 32° for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.

The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
