Manager, Wastewater
Divert is seeking an accomplished Manager, Wastewater will play a pivotal role in our nationwide growth and the development of innovative, sustainable projects. This position focuses on managing wastewater interconnections, securing essential permits, and navigating the complexities of public infrastructure and private sector demands.
A strong collaborator, this role works closely with colleagues across disciplines to achieve successful project delivery and will report to the VP of Development. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience and possess a deep understanding of regulatory processes, technical requirements, and the strategic considerations needed to deliver impactful projects.
What You’ll Do
- Evaluate Sewer Infrastructure and Regulatory Feasibility
- Assess potential project sites to ensure they meet wastewater infrastructure and regulatory requirements
- Secure Sewer Interconnections and SIU/IUP permits
- Lead the acquisition of sewer interconnections and SIU/IUP permits, ensuring timely and compliant approvals.
- Build and Maintain Stakeholder Relationships
- Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders, including Water Resource Directors, POTW Manager, City Managers, regulators, and consultants.
- Conduct Technical and Regulatory Research
- Provide actionable insights through technical and regulatory research to inform siting and project decisions.
- Identify emerging regulatory trends to help steer strategic technology evaluation.
- Support Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Align project requirements, risks, and timeliness by collaborating with the Project Delivery, Finance and Legal teams.
- Identify and Mitigate Project Risks
- Analyze and address potential risks to ensure successful project delivery.
- Travel as Required – 25% (national)
- Visit project sites, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory offices – as required – to support business objectives
What You’ll Need
- Education – BS in Civil, Chemical, Environmental Science or similar.
- Experience - 10 to 15 yrs experience in wastewater management, environmental consulting, utilities, or industrial sectors.
- Proven track record of delivering wastewater infrastructure projects and securing necessary permits.
- Strong knowledge of wastewater systems, sewer interconnections, and permitting processes.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, public utility operations, and private infrastructure demands.
- Understanding of hydrology, water resource management, or construction practices related to wastewater systems.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct technical and regulatory research to inform siting and project feasibility.
- Experience working with public-sector officials, regulatory agencies, and private-sector partners to navigate complex challenges and build consensus.
- Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams, align technical and business objectives, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organized and self-motivated
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage complex projects
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
