Job Summary: The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Generalist is a key member of the on-site pharmaceutical manufacturing support team, responsible for promoting and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and facility-specific waste management protocols. This role involves daily oversight of safe waste handling, comprehensive safety inspections, and collaboration with departments to uphold environmental, health, and safety standards. This position requires at least three years of experience in EHS with a strong understanding of OSHA compliance, waste management best practices, and the ability to contribute to a safe workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
Waste Documentation and Filing:
- File waste manifests and Safety Task Assessments (STAs) daily.
- Check the mailbox each day and organize documents in designated binders.
Waste Rounds:
- Complete waste rounds at least twice a week, inspecting Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAAs) across the entire facility.
- Ensure proper collection and replacement of waste containers and labels.
- Monitor battery and printer toner recycling.
Inspections:
- Conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, safety showers, eyewash stations, and spill kits, following established checklists.
- Report any deficiencies or needs for replenishment.
Environmental Metrics:
- Monthly reading of utility meters (gas and electric) and reporting waste amounts based on manifests.
Coordination of Waste Pickups:
- Schedule weekly pickups for various waste types, including maintenance waste, empty drums, and other materials.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure timely and safe waste management.
Waste Shed Management:
- Organize and segregate waste in the waste shed.
- Monitor and replenish waste management supplies, including spill kits and containers.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent and further education or certification in environmental science or waste management is a plus.
- Previous experience in waste management, environmental health, and safety, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of waste disposal regulations and recycling processes.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
