Starting salary to commence at $63,424 - $82,450 based upon experience.
General Statement of Job
Coordinates and supervises the operations at a City of Venice Water/Wastewater Facility in compliance with Federal, State and City (local) mandates.

Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Supervises and participates in the daily plant operations in compliance with all regulatory permit requirements.
- Schedules and directs work of plant operators at assigned facility. Assigns shifts and maintains overtime rooster.
- Monitors condition and operation of plants and associated equipment to maintain safe and effective conditions.
- Maintains records in compliance with regulatory agencies’ standards and prepares reports as required.
- Supervises and analyzes applicable chemical and physical test results to ensure regulatory standards and requirements are met. Implements changes to plant operations to optimize treatment as needed.
- Assists Water Production/Water Reclamation Operations Supervisor to prioritize activities at assigned plant and work sites
- Requisitions chemicals and supplies to ensure adequate inventory for efficient plant operations.
- Responsible for staying current with technological changes pertaining to plant operations.
- Recommends hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion, discharge, discipline and evaluation of plant operators.
- Carries out the duties and responsibilities of the Water Production/Water Reclamation Operations Supervisor, as required.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the safe and efficient operations of a City of Venice wastewater plant to ensure quality service to customers. Responsible in work to the Water Reclamation Operations Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education and Training
High school graduate or equivalent with five (5) years experience as a plant operator in an applicable utility facility. Experience and demonstrated ability in supervision required.
Water Reclamation Division
Must possess and maintain a Florida Class A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License or have the ability to obtain within one (1) year.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Skill Requirements:
Knowledge of the standard practices and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of plant equipment and related laboratory testing and measuring devices. Ability to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance. Possess excellent listening, speaking and communication skills; understand and follow applicable federal, state and local regulations; maintain records, and prepare reports legibly and accurately. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions connected with this type of work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, supervisors, regulatory agency representatives and the general public. Possess a valid Florida Driver’s license, free of any serious violations.
Requires a working knowledge of the current version of the Microsoft Office Professional software suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of the current version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with CentralSquare Software applications based on an iSeries system is preferred. Working knowledge of current versions of Internet browsers and Microsoft Outlook is also highly recommended. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Department.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and lift. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather and for prolonged periods of time. Must have good eyesight and hearing with or without aides. Color vision required. Must possess excellent hand and eye coordination. Must be able to work regularly under the stress of emergency situations and deadlines. Reasonable accommodation will be considered for individuals with physical disabilities.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions:
Work is performed either indoors or outdoors in all kinds of weather. May be required to cover vacant plant operator shifts on an as needed basis. Expected to be available for emergencies beyond regular operating hours if required.
