Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., founded in 1957 and headquartered in Mississippi, is the largest producer and distributor of shell eggs in the United States. Our integrated operations include hatching chicks, growing and maintaining flocks of pullets, layers, and breeders, manufacturing feed, and producing, processing, packaging, and distributing shell eggs. The Wastewater Assistant position is responsible for day-to-day successful operation of our wastewater treatment facility.
Responsibilities
- Monitoring aeration motors for performance and times and manually turning them on and off daily as required.
- Manually starting and stopping two decanting pumps that send water to the city when deemed appropriate.
- Regularly maintaining the Diffused Air Filtration unit, which removes solids from our wastewater at a rate determined by testing water and adjusting the water/polymer mixture.
- Daily sampling of PH levels at various spots in the process and adjusting PH by adding/reducing the amount of magnesium added to the wastewater stream.
- Sampling aerated water daily to determine the settlement level in the aeration pond.
- Manually engaging/disengaging the sludge pump to run when needed to remove solids from the bottom of the aeration pond.
- Testing the dissolved oxygen level in the aeration pond during the aeration cycle.
- Collecting and recording data for record maintenance.
- Recording all test results and adjustments in an organized manner.
- Performing facility grounds maintenance including cleaning equipment and tanks, along with various other housekeeping duties.
- Daily inspections of all plant equipment and performing repairs of machinery and equipment as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred, and one year of water treatment experience and/or training is required for this position.
- Must possess basic mechanical aptitude to perform general maintenance and repair.
- A valid Driver's License is required.
- A Wastewater Class 3 Operator’s License is required.
