Job Description:
The Meter Reader/Collector is responsible for reading water meters in an assigned area; records water consumption for a given period and collects water billings; detects and reports damaged or unusual meter conditions and readings; delivers customer disconnect communication and disconnects customer services. This position is located in Puyallup, Washington.
Essential Functions:
- Reads water meters in an assigned area using a handheld device, in varied neighborhoods and terrains, and in all weather conditions
- Records meter readings, compares the current reading with prior readings to determine accuracy and appropriateness of reading and reports any unusual conditions
- Inspects water services and plumbing systems as directed for tampering or cross connections; checks for inoperative, defaced, or bypassed meters; reports any street, house, or meter number changes
- Completes forms (door hangers) and distributes them to inform customers of impending disconnections or work taking place
- Communicates with customers in the field answering questions regarding meter reading, customer billing, or consumption; refers the customer to the proper company contact if additional information is requested
- Repairs and/or replaces damaged meters, digs and trims around meter boxes clearing of any vegetation or foliage, reports street leaks or unsafe conditions and other hazards associated with meters and water pipes or pump houses.
- Collects monies and gives customers receipts in the field
- As instructed, disconnects services for non-payment and reconnects services in connection with collection procedures and conducts rereads
- Participates in and supports the Company's Continuous Improvement program and processes
- Performs other similar as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- First Aid Certification within one year of employment
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
- Valid State of Washington Driver's License
Salary Range: $41,600 - $68,700
