Title: Water Laboratory Technician
Reports to: Water Treatment Department Assistant Manager
Status: Full-time; daily at the lab
Working Hour Range: 8am – 5pm
Working Location: Rockmart, Georgia

Purpose Of Role
The Water Laboratory Technician is responsible for providing support for Miura’s Sales, Maintenance, and Support teams by analyzing water samples and supporting the water sampling-related activities within the company; for providing support to Miura’s Production teams by analyzing chemical quality and production of chemical; for maintaining the lab’s operation and accuracy with analysis of water samples.
Essential Functions
- Water Sample Analysis
- Perform water analysis on all water samples that are received by the lab for testing.
- Understand and utilize platforms to transfer submitted analysis request data to the analysis document.
- Conduct tests on water samples following Miura’s water analysis procedures.
- Maintain a minimized backlog of water samples and minimize the duration of time that the water samples are on the shelf.
- The daily sample count analyzed will vary, but it is expected that the employee is capable of adjusting their analysis count as necessary to manage the backlog of samples.
- A range of 50 to 80 samples within a day is an expected range of capability after employment of 6 months.
- Follow the procedure for water analysis result review and the manage retest turnaround time.
- Upload the water analysis data into the Miura database.
- Quality and Accuracy Checks and Reporting
- Perform routine accuracy checks on lab equipment and procedures.
- Perform and record monthly calibrations, adjusting and correcting as necessary to fall within the necessary range of operation.
- Perform necessary weekly and daily calibrations to ensure proper operation of equipment and proper analysis results.
- Receive a passing evaluation during the biannual cross checks with Japan.
- Create routine reports on the operations and status of the lab.
- Generate reports on the analysis operations of the lab.
- Report on the calibration and accuracy checks.
- Able to provide Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) Report to supervisor and general affairs monthly.
- Lab Management & Maintenance
- Maintain the laboratory’s cleanliness, organization, equipment maintenance, and inventory of reagents and consumable materials.
- R outinely clean the tools, glassware, and lab environment.
- Keep with 5S standards for organization and cleanliness to promote a safe and orderly work environment.
- Maintain the function of the lab equipment through routine maintenance and situational activities.
- Order lab chemicals and supplies as needed to maintain a proper inventory and minimize down-time .
- Perform monthly inventory counting and submission at the end of the month.
- Manage and dispose of waste properly and in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Able to understand and follow the procedures for handling hazardous waste.
- Relocate solid and liquid waste to the appropriate locations and document the disposal as required, minimizing the risk of an accident.
- Safety
- Operate while following proper safety practices to keep yourself and others safe in the lab and factory.
- Wear proper PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) in the appropriate locations.
- Safely handling of all reagents.
- Safely and quickly clean up chemical spills in accordance with their SDS and lab safety policies and procedures.
- Complete company-wide Compliance Training on a yearly basis.
- Identify unsafe conditions and report to a supervisor and General Affairs.
- Chemical Production, Reagent Mixing & Chemical Product Quality Testing
- Produce, test, and package chemical products as needed in a timely manner.
- Follow the procedure for chemical production.
- Measure and mix chemicals for production.
- Test the products’ quality.
- Package and label the products.
- Maintain proper inventories for all reagents and packaging supplies.
- Blend reagents for routine water analysis.
- Accurately follow the procedures for reagent mixing.
- Appropriately measure out raw material using the appropriate tools and equipment.
- Maintain a proper inventory of all raw materials.
- Perform proper testing/quality assurance of Miura’s chemical products that are produced at the Rockmart facility.
- Properly follow procedures for testing all chemical products from the factory.
- Maintain a proper inventory for all raw materials and testing standards.
- Accurately record and properly store chemical samples, while properly disposing according to established procedures.
- Water Sample & Bottle Management
- Perform all the functions that are associated to maintaining a low backlog of samples and make sure that Miura branches and Representatives have an adequate number of bottles for water sampling activities.
- Send out empty water sample bottles to Miura personnel and Representatives to support their sampling activities.
- Supply of water bottles should be performed in a timely fashion.
- An inventory of bottles within the lab should be managed to allow for quick response to requests for bottles.
- Cooperate with multiple departments to ensure that the shipments occur properly.
- Follow the proper procedure for tracking of bottles and operational analysis.
- Receive water samples in a routine fashion.
- Shipments should be checked regularly to make sure they are received in a proper and timely manner.
- Samples received should be tracked in the system on the day of receipt for proper data management and tracking.
- Samples awaiting analysis should be stored and managed appropriately to minimize accidents and mistakes with identification.
- Analyze water samples ( reference the section above ).
- Clean water bottles regularly to minimize clutter and manage the inventory of cleaned bottles for supply.
- Samples should be routinely disposed of according to established lab procedures.
- Water bottles should be cleaned and prepared for reuse.
- Follow proper procedure for storage and tracking of water bottles for operation analysis and inventory management.
- Manage the Sample Box Program account details and shipments.
- Prepare sample boxes for all customers that participate in the program monthly.
- Manage the inventory of the material used in the Sample Box Program.
- Cooperate with other Miura personnel to ensure accurate management of the shipments.
- Determine when the water bottles should be replaced and follow the procedure for replacing them with new bottles.
- Prepare new bottles for use based on proper inventory management.
- Lab Improvements
- Routinely perform assessments of all procedures, processes and equipment to determine if the lab is operating effectively and efficiently.
- Regular review of the lab to consider improvements to processes, procedures, and equipment.
- Provide recommendations to the supervisor for review and consideration.
- Improve knowledge and documentation of procedures and policies pertaining to the lab, including training material.

- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

- Ability to perform tasks repetitively and follow procedure thoroughly.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience with laboratory environment is preferred but not required.
- Experience with laboratory equipment calibration is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of chemicals and their dangers is preferred but not required.
