Wastewater Engineer Mission: To serve a critical role for rural and underprivileged communities through the design of wastewater infrastructure projects including collection system to treatment to meet critical infrastructure needs. Because this Engineer will support underserved rural municipalities in the Colorado Springs and Eastern Plains region, local residence is required.

Expected Wastewater Engineer Duties & Tasks: We don’t expect someone to walk in the door and function at a high level with all these activities. If you can, that would great, otherwise, this is a roadmap for your career development. As we like to say, this is not “cookie-cutter” or “out of the box” design as many larger firms provide. You are immersed throughout the entire process.
You’ll be responsible for planning, analysis, evaluation, design, and coordination for small or larger wastewater projects depending on level of experience. Projects would be for municipal wastewater treatment and wastewater collection.
- Must be willing to evaluate alternative treatment technology for smaller communities, such as Bioaugmentation and Electrocoagulation. Understanding & planning for the impact of upcoming nutrient restrictions (Tin, Ammonia, etc.) will be important
- You’ll use your communication skills to correspond with small communities to obtain data and write about the findings in a way that is clearly understood by all
- You’ll convey findings at Town Board meetings, typically through public speaking
- You will be involved in analyzing pipe hydraulics, pump system or lift station design, equipment selection, and alternative evaluations on various projects
- Must be willing to take on a variety of tasks over and above your job description to serve our small-town clients with a variety of infrastructure-related challenges
- Facilitate communication between all stakeholders, before, during, and after construction
- Responsibility for permitting will be on your shoulders; you will be walking through the permitting process at every stage to ensure the project has received all necessary clearances
Wastewater Engineer Skills and Experience:
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering
- 3-15 years of experience in civil engineering or environmental engineering, with wastewater experience preferred as a Professional Engineer
- Residence within the Colorado Springs region
- Licensed as a professional engineer in the State of Colorado or eligible to be licensed through application by reciprocity or by exam within 6 months
- Proficiency in AutoCAD with focused experience in Civil 3D and/or Plant 3D
- Ability to work with and mentor younger engineers is a plus
- Experience in the design of complex water and wastewater projects a plus
