Are you ready for an exciting opportunity? The City of Des Plaines Public Works & Engineering Department is looking for a dynamic individual to lead as the Foreman of Utilities. This role involves overseeing the city's water and sewer systems, managing the installation of fire hydrants and parking meters, and responding to water distribution emergencies.
Expected Starting Rate: $98,500 - $108,000 +/- Qualifications
Responsibilities:
Water Plant & Sewer Maintenance:
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of water treatment stations, valve vaults, water meters, and sewer systems.
- Perform minor plumbing repairs and monitor illegal plumbing hookups.
Utilities & Equipment Management:
- Direct the installation, inspection, and maintenance of parking meters, fire hydrants, and related equipment.
- Oversee utility locations, sewer line televising, debris clearance, and sewer line repairs.
Emergency & Safety Response:
- Lead responses to water distribution emergencies and localized flooding events.
- Ensure all duties conform to safety and security standards.
Personnel & Customer Service:
- Train and supervise staff, evaluate performance, and handle disciplinary actions.
- Address residential complaints and service requests.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance, construction, or repair, with at least one year in a supervisory role.
- Knowledge of municipal water and sewer systems and effective supervision practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and operate necessary tools and software.
- Must possess or obtain a State of Illinois Class "A" CDL with Airbrake and Tanker endorsement within 120 days of employment.
