Job Description:
The Electrical Mechanical Technician (EMT) is responsible for installation and repair of all electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation equipment in the production, treatment, and distribution systems of the district(s) under his/her assigned territory. This includes inspection, installation as needed for electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation elements in new construction of pump and storage facilities, telemetry and SCADA systems, and automatic control valves; ensures that construction conforms to plans and specifications; testing, calibration, and repair of instrumentation including water quality analyzers, chart recorders, flow meters, transducers; install, troubleshoot, and maintain treatment plant equipment such as motor-actuated valves, variable frequency drives, soft start contactors, human machine interfaces, and programmable logic controllers. An EMT may be required to work outside the home district. This position is located in Atherton, CA.
Essential Functions:
- Participate in design, review, and construction of pump stations, storage facilities, and SCADA control systems
- Install or assist with installation of new pumps, motors, control valves, and facility operating equipment as necessary
- Maintain various types of control valves, both hydraulically and electrically operated
- Inspect, install, rewire, and repair as needed electrical circuits and elements in new construction of pump stations, storage facilities, and SCADA control systems ensuring that construction conforms to plans, specifications, and National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electrical systems including telemetry and SCADA systems automatic control valves, and VFDs
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain treatment plant electrical and instrumentation equipment
- Inspect electrical equipment on tanks and appurtenances
- Test, calibrate, and repair instrumentation including water quality analyzers, chart recorders, flow meters, and transducers using electrical and electronic digital volt-ohm meters and mA loop calibrating equipment
- Communicate with contractors, vendors, and electric utility for facility repairs and maintenance functions
- Research and procure necessary parts for repairs or replacement
- Communicate with district staff and EMT supervisor and complete reports and daily progress
- Operate treatment plant, pump station, and distribution system valves as necessary
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
- An EMT must be able to effectively communicate with their supervisor, co-workers and the public;
- Have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blue prints, electrical schematics, and procedure manuals; have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations; write routine reports and correspondence
- Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent, possess a valid California Class C Driver's license, and be insurable under the Company's policy
- An EMT must have a working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of applications, including basic features of Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Employee must work independently and effectively, with little supervision, to prioritize and complete assigned objectives and handle multiple projects or assignments simultaneously
- The job entails an understanding and knowledge of water quality specifications for chlorine content, pH, water temperature, other essential water quality parameters, as well as National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) rules and regulations
- State of California Water Distribution Operator II is required
- State of California Water Treatment Operator II is required
Salary Range: $54.18 - $62.65
