The Water Mitigation Technician at Merit Restorations is a hands-on, labor-intensive role critical to the success of our restoration projects. Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, you will be at the forefront of water and storm damage cleanup, utilizing your expertise in construction and exceptional customer service skills. This position requires a commitment to excellence, a high level of physical endurance, and the ability to respond to emergency calls on a rotating basis.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Water and Storm Damage Cleanup: Perform thorough cleaning and drying of interior areas affected by water or storm damage. Utilize specialized equipment to identify wet items and materials, ensuring a comprehensive mitigation process. Responsible for directing employees and subcontractors in ES claims including water mitigation where mechanical drying is required, board up, tarp up, etc
- Material Removal and Extraction: Skillfully remove damaged materials such as drywall and flooring, clear debris, and efficiently operate water extraction equipment to minimize further damage to the property
- Drying and Dehumidification: Deploy and manage drying equipment to effectively dry out water-damaged materials, adhering to industry best practices and standards. If it is a water loss, properly records moisture levels, relative humidity levels, dew points, grains per pounds, etc. and follows the proper way to dry a structure
- Customer Service Excellence: Provide outstanding customer service to property owners throughout the restoration process, ensuring clear and compassionate communication and addressing any concerns promptly. Conducts self in a professional manner at all times. As a team leader, sets the standard for other employees and subcontractors to follow. Discourages negative morale by offering positive suggestions to all challenges. Be honest and courteous to everyone you come in contact with
- Communication and Coordination: Maintain effective communication with clints, insurance representatives, and the Project Manager, keeping them informed of job progress and updates. Respond to emergency calls as part of a rotating on-call schedule, demonstrating readiness and efficiency. Responsible for the digital photographic inventory. This includes taking photos, labeling photos, and putting photos into appropriate folder or software
- Compliance and Quality Control: Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to mold remediation, equipment setup, and quality control. Ensure compliance with IICRC specifications and other relevant industry standards. Obtain necessary information to complete ITEL reports on first day of job if needed. Responsible for making sure all trash/debris is removed from the job site (and unloaded)
- Properly Documentation: Assists in assessing the damage and making notes of the condition by taking before and after pictures each time visits jobsite (all four corners), recording data, and completing the proper forms. Assists in ensuring all paperwork is completed from start to finish (all information needs to successfully enter into Moisture Mapper, MICA, and Fire & Ice). Takes before and after pictures throughout the process and makes notes of damaged items. Bring questions, discrepancies, and unusual conditions to the attention of the Branch Manager as they arise
Industry Expertise and Personal Development: All employees will be expected to learn about the industry and current trends within their specific area of expertise (e.g., accounting, marketing, customer service). This includes attending professional workshops, taking educational courses and cross training within other departments.

- Continued education through IICRC and other relative firms/organizations
- Training in Xactimate and other mitigation software (Moisture Mapper, MICA, etc)

This hourly position offers a competitive pay range of $22 - $28 per hour, based on experience.
