Salary Range A: $26.50 - $43.72 Hourly / $57,876.00 - $95,484.48 Annually
Salary Range B: $24.03 – 39.64 Hourly / $52,481.52 - $86,573.76 Annually
Salary Range C: $22.89 - $37.76 Hourly / $49,991.76 - $82,467.84 Annually
FLSA Position Class: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7AM to 3:30PM for New Hires,
After training ends: Days, Nights, Weekends, Rotating

Summary
This position is responsible for performing skilled or semi-skilled work in the operation, repair, and maintenance of a water treatment plant.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. - Maintains plant operations to include chemical adjustments, flow adjustments, pumping schedules, filtration rates, chemical tank levels, and other aspects of plant operations.
- Ensures proper functioning of water pumps, motors, filters, and chemical feeders; makes adjustments as necessary to maintain proper flow of water.
- Maintains records and monitors reservoir levels, head loss levels, and pump station status.
- Monitors SCADA system for discrepancies in plant operations; enters data on appropriate sheets.
- Checks incoming rate and pumping levels to schedule flow changes.
- Compiles and maintains reports on water pumped for monthly and daily averages.
- Adds or adjusts chemicals to water as necessary.
- Notes and records readings of meters and indicators.
- Collects water samples from designated points, performs chemical tests, interprets results, and changes chemical feed rates as necessary.
- Replenishes treatment equipment with chemicals.
- Maintains records of chemical usage.
- Troubleshoots equipment failures; makes equipment repairs.
- Checks reservoir levels, monitors SCADA system for adequate tank levels, distribution system pressure, and pumping rates.
- Performs equipment maintenance and plant monitoring.
- Backwashes filters.
- Completes daily logs of chemical and water usage after midnight.
- Cross trains to operate alum sludge press.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education and/or Experience
OPERATOR C
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least eighteen (18) months of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.
OPERATOR B
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.
OPERATOR A
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 36 months (2½ years) of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.
Supplemental Information
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, and methods used in water treatment and pumping operations.
- Thorough knowledge of chemistry as applied to water treatment.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions related to water treatment and pumping operations.
- Thorough knowledge of SCADA and other relevant computer applications.
- Ability to take accurate readings, to keep routine records, and to make mathematical computations.
- Ability to use chemicals accurately and safely for water treatment testing.
- Ability to inspect system components for malfunctions and make necessary repairs/adjustments.
- Ability to adjust water pumps, chemical feed machines, and other water plant equipment.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the public.
Job Related Physical Requirements
This position involves heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and to convey detailed or important instructions to others; hearing is required to respond to spoken words and to receive and understand information; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring or testing devices, operation of machines or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working Conditions
The employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, rain, fumes, odors, dust, gases, oils, vibration, poor ventilation, noise, and hazards including exposure to chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, and work in narrow or confined spaces and may be exposed to blood and other potentially infectious materials. Employee may be called in to work nights, weekends, or during emergency situations.
