Role Description The Water Treatment Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Caribou, ME, responsible for the daily operation and monitoring of water and wastewater treatment processes. This role includes operating and adjusting plant equipment, monitoring chemical dosing, collecting and analyzing water samples, and maintaining accurate operational records and logs. The operator will perform routine inspections of pump stations and related systems, identify potential issues, and coordinate corrective actions to ensure regulatory compliance and safe, reliable service. The position also involves performing basic maintenance on mechanical and electrical components, adhering to safety protocols, and collaborating with other operations and maintenance staff to optimize plant performance.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in Plant Operations and Process Control for water and wastewater facilities.
- Strong knowledge of Water Treatment processes, including chemical handling and filtration systems.
- Experience with Wastewater Treatment systems, including monitoring, testing, and compliance reporting.
- Ability to operate and maintain Pump Stations and related mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Relevant state certifications or licenses in water and/or wastewater operations, or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or coursework in environmental science, water technology, or a related field is beneficial.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, schematics, and standard operating procedures, with strong attention to detail.
- Physical ability to work in an industrial environment, including lifting, climbing, and working in varying weather conditions, following all safety standards.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively and independently, including participation in rotating shifts or on-call schedules as needed.
