RAD Engineers is seeking experienced Senior Inspectors to serve as Inspector Resident Engineer Representatives on MTA Construction & Development bridge and tunnel projects in New York City. These are full-time, on-site positions supporting construction management and inspection services throughout the construction phase. The Inspector Resident Representative serves as the primary field presence on behalf of the project management team, responsible for daily oversight of contractor operations, compliance verification, documentation, and coordination with MTA C&D and project stakeholders. Assignments involve active roadway and bridge environments requiring night and weekend availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full-time on-site inspection and oversight of contractor and subcontractor work activities on MTA C&D bridge and tunnel construction projects
- Prepare and maintain Daily Inspection Reports (DIRs) with sketches and photographic documentation; upload to MTA C&D's ProjectWise and Unifier platforms
- Monitor contractor compliance with contract documents, applicable codes, safety requirements, and MTA C&D standards
- Verify quantities of work completed including durations, start/finish times, and material delivery dates
- Track non-conforming items and deficiencies and final corrective actions
- Coordinate material testing activities including witnessing, documenting, and recording test results in the project Testing Log
- Monitor contractor safety and security daily compliance
- Oversee contractor environmental compliance including noise, vibration, air and water quality monitoring, and hazardous material encounter response
- Provide coverage for night and weekend shifts as required by the construction schedule and PCEO direction
- Coordinate with MTA C&D, TBTA Operations, and other project stakeholders as directed by the Resident Engineer
Required Qualifications
- NICET Level III certification in Highway Construction Inspection or equivalent discipline applicable to bridge and transportation infrastructure projects
- Civil engineering or similar degree/certification combined with demonstrated highway and bridge construction inspection experience may be considered equivalent, subject to project owner approval.
- OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training certification
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn MTA C&D's Bentley ProjectWise and Oracle Unifier platforms (MTA C&D provides training)
- Strong understanding of highway and bridge construction materials, methods, and standards
- Demonstrated experience preparing Daily Inspection Reports and maintaining construction project documentation
- Availability for night and weekend work as required by project schedule
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid, clean driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience on MTA, TBTA, or MTA C&D bridge and tunnel construction projects in New York City
- Familiarity with NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and TBTA construction standards and protocols
- Experience with Primavera P6 schedule review

- Frequent movement on job sites including traversing uneven terrain, ascending and descending ladders, and working at elevation

- Lead and perform inspections of surface preparation, blasting, and coating application
- Verify compliance with project specifications and applicable standards including AMPP, SSPC, ASTM, and manufacturer requirements

- Perform and verify coating inspection tests including surface profile measurements, dry film thickness (DFT), holiday detection, and adhesion testing
