POSITION: Water Group Leader
POSITION LOCATION: Chicago, Crystal Lake, Mokena, or Naperville, IL

Directs, administers and coordinates the activities of the departments under their control in support of policies, goals and objectives established by the Water Practice Leader. This position also plays a key role in operations, business development, identifying new opportunities, developing staff, executing projects, maintaining and growing client relationships.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Team Building
- Recruit, Retain, Mentor and Coordinate training for staff in the planning, design, and management of water supply, treatment, and distribution system projects.
- Develop a team of future leaders. Guide the growth of junior and senior engineers.
- Train, evaluate, and mentor Department Managers, Project Managers and Lead Technical Staff. Performs performance appraisals and goal creation.
Operations
- Execute day-to-day operations, including measurement and progress of project and staff performance. Report status to the Water Practice Leader.
- Establish quality standards and uniform production requirements for the Drinking Water Group and approve pricing, estimating and scoping strategies for proposed projects under their control.
- Meet with clients to identify water system planning, treatment and operational challenges. Develop technical approaches for improvements.
- Lead the technical execution of water projects, provide technical direction, review and ensure quality control activities are performed.
- Undertake role of Project Manager on specific projects.
Business Development
- Lead and/or assist with business development activities including identifying opportunities, developing relationships with key contacts, preparing for market trends and assisting business development leaders.
- Prepare proposals and agreements, assist with interviews, and prepare case studies, cut sheets, and other marketing materials to promote B&W expertise.
- Represent B&W at industry meetings, conferences, and client events as recognized industry expert to develop new leads, build B&W reputation, enhance client relationships, and present technical expertise. Maintain a role on a technical committee/society.
Group Management
- Effectively communicate corporate goals, philosophy and culture. Ensure compliance of firm’s policies and procedures.
- Lead decision making and strategic planning action for the Group and facilitate changes. Encourage cooperation among all sectors, offices and company departments.
- Guide and direct department managers in the development, production and sale of the Groups’ services under their control.
- Assists the Water Practice Leader in the preparation of short-term and long-range plans and annual budgets based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives.
- Supervise and monitor client relationship strategies under their control. Serve as client manager for key clients.
- Review personnel recommendations from the Department Managers and makes recommendations to the Water Practice Leader and Human Resources.
- Review recommendations for raises and bonuses for personnel under their control and submit to the Water Practice Leader.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
- Member of professional and technical societies.
- 10 or more years related experience in project management and potable water design.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Strong written, verbal, computer and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
