Employer: Hydro-Terra Group (www.hydro-terra.com) is a small, hands-on Earth resources business comprised of geologists, engineers, environmental scientists, and technicians, with offices in Westminster, MD, and Harrisburg, PA. HTG has an opening in the Westminster office for a versatile Environmental Scientist / Staff Geologist to support our portfolio of environmental monitoring, water supply, and wastewater treatment and operations projects. HTG serves customers primarily within the Mid-Atlantic region.
Responsibilities: To support HTG customers and projects, including:
- Groundwater purging and sampling.
- Project record-keeping, maintaining field logs, and spreadsheet data entry.
- Field equipment calibration, maintenance, repair, and shop organization.
- Construction oversight, inspection, and support.
- Monitoring Well installation/borehole logging.
Minimum Expectations: Candidates should demonstrate the following:
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently and multitask on various projects within a small office environment.
- Strong work ethic, professionalism, and effective communication.
- Willing to work outdoors (including inclement weather), accommodate weather-dependent scheduling changes, and travel and carry up to 50-pound loads.
Qualifications: HTG prefers someone with some experience as an environmental technician, operator, or tradesperson, but will train the right person with minimal experience. This is an entry-level position for an enthusiastic candidate with a good attitude, ready to make a beginning or change in their career. HTG will train the right person. Any of the experiences below would be beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related science field.
- Professional experience with emphasis in environmental investigations.
- Experience with soils and geologic/ lithological logging.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills.
- Knowledge of ESRI GIS, Surfer, Grapher, AutoCAD, and groundwater modeling a plus.
