Position: Environmental Field Specialist (Water Systems)
JOB REF#: 44538 - 65660
Duration: 12 Months (Contract)
Location: HYBRID - Jackson, TN 38305
Pay Rate: $39.00 (W2 only) or $43.00 (INCORPORATED), (Not accepting 1099 or C2C)
HYBRID SCHEDULE: Must work on-site a minimum of 2-3 days a week (LOCAL CANDIDATE ONLY)
HOURS: 8:00am - 4:30pm MON-FRI / 40 per week
The position will primarily be responsible for collecting chemical and biological samples of surface waters and performing sanitary surveys of public water systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Collecting chemical, bacteriological and biological samples of surface waters for analysis to assess stream health.
Conduct sanitary surveys of community and non-community public water systems to ensure compliance with federal and state drinking water standards.
Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for public water system operators, landowners, and local stakeholders, providing guidance on regulatory requirements and compliance.
Travel regularly to monitoring sites and public water systems across a 17-county service area using a state-provided vehicle.
Accurately document field findings, maintain organized records, and input data into digital systems.
Participate in occasional investigations related to illegal discharges, surface water quality concerns, or public water drinking water complaints.
Collaborate with internal regulatory teams, consultants, water system operators, elected officials, and members of the public to resolve issues and support environmental goals.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Excellent customer service and can effectively communicate with a diverse internal and external customer base.
Comfortable working independently in field environments and managing frequent travel
Able to work outdoors in rural areas, construction sites, and varying weather conditions
Dependable, adaptable, and detail-oriented in both field and laboratory settings
Has a valid Driver's Licence, able to travel to various sites
EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in environmental science, physical sciences (e.g. science, biology, chemistry, wildlife biology, physics, geology, meteorology)
HIGHLY PREFERRED SKILLS
Experience with chemical sampling and water sample collection preferred
Knowledge of macrobenthic invertebrate sampling and identification preferred
Familiarity with laboratory procedures and analysis of water samples preferred
