Purpose Of Position
Maintain and operate water treatment plant equipment and control the various treatment processes to ensure water quality criteria are met. This position reports to the Lead Treatment Plant Operator and Chief Treatment Plant Operator.
Essential Functions
1. Operate and maintain plant equipment and plant processes
2. Inspect, clean, and repair pumps, motors, meters, transmitters, etc.
3. Ability to control and monitor processes manually or using SCADA
4. Monitor equipment and make changes as necessary throughout the treatment processes
5. Interrupt lab analysis results and make recommendations to staff relating to chemical dose
adjustments
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Interrupt and make quick assessments of system conditions and offer quick direction to staff in
emergencies
2. Record and evaluate plant operations logs, reports, charts, etc.
3. Supervise staff in the absence of the Chief Operator
4. Train and supervise staff in maintenance procedures
5. Other duties as assigned
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
1. Possess a thorough knowledge of the entire treatment process: flocculation, coagulation,
sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, storage, and transmission
2. Ability to operate various equipment such as power tools, tractors, mini excavators
3. Ability to troubleshoot plant processes and respond accordingly
4. Ability to operate a personal computer, use Microsoft Excel and Word effectively
5. Must be able to work near hazardous chemicals and follow all safety policies and procedures
6. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather extremes
7. Must be able to stand, walk, and climb up to 6 hours daily; bend and stoop 4-6 hours daily; sit,
crawl, and kneel 1 hour daily; occasionally lift and carry up to 100 lbs. 30 minutes; frequently push
and pull up to 100 lbs. 30 minutes. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, in confined
spaces and heights. Must have good speech, eyesight, balance, finger movement, and be able to
grasp objects.
Minimum Qualifications
Treatment Plant Operator II -High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred in the field of chemistry, biology, or a related field, but not required. Two years’ experience in surface water treatment operations. Must possess a current TCEQ Class C Surface Water license in good standing. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
Pay Grade: $24.04 Hourly Class C Surface Water TCEQ License
Treatment Plant Operator III –High school diploma or GED required; college preferred in the field of chemistry, biology, or a related field, but not required. Three years’ experience in surface water treatment operations; prefer at least five years’ experience. Must possess, at a minimum, a current TCEQ Class B Surface Water license in good standing. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s license with a clear
driving record.
Pay Grade: $25.24 Hourly Class B Surface Water TCEQ License
