GFT is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY to work on school construction projects. This role requiring regular attendance in New York, NY office.

What you’ll be challenged to do:
As a Construction Manager you will ensure the quality and high standards of performance and compliance in both design and construction by all consultants, vendors, et al. Makes decisions and takes action in a timely manner to expedite the timely completion of the construction process. Corrects mistakes and errors in design and construction before they can be extensively incorporated into the project or as early in the construction process as possible. Responsibilities are varied and include coordinative, problem solving, and managerial functions for these projects.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Make choices on project phasing and scheduling, and ensure development of schedules for planning, design, and construction.
- Monitor and take necessary actions to ensure projects are completed within approved cost and on schedule.
- Interact regularly with contractors, construction managers, local school personnel, and Senior Project Officers to address project-related matters.
- Engage with senior managers on various project issues.
- Participate in creating and issuing project procedures and policies, and review procedures and policies.
- Offer guidance and advice to Project Officers at lower levels.
- Resolve problems mentioned in field reports by architects and construction management staff.
- Collaborate with the architect/engineer of record on change orders, contract interpretation, shop drawing submittals, and technical aspects for structurally sound, code-compliant, and aesthetically pleasing facilities.
- Issue field memoranda or directives to contractors to ensure contract compliance.
- Advise senior management on the need for liquidated damages and other contractual enforcement measures, including default.
- Independently make on-site change order decisions and negotiate with contractors, committing resources on such orders.
- Review contractors' claims or disputed work and provide advice to senior management for appropriate action.
- Compile contract and project documentation essential for adjudicating or denying claims.
- Visit various job sites as required for fulfilling the above duties.
- Perform other associated tasks.
What you’ll bring to our firm:
- Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of full time, progressively responsible work as a technical specialist in one or more construction and design related fields; two (2) years must involve managing all phases of construction work on a scale and scope.
- A driver’s license valid in New York State.
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $110,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
