Job Summary: The Wastewater Treatment Operator oversees the operation of the Moroni City Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW), including the day-to-day operation, management of operations and staff and reporting to UPDES permit requirements per State and Federal standards.
Essential Functions:
1. Oversee POTW operations and processes involving preliminary treatment, water processing, sludge processing, etc., including the monitoring, sampling, and readings on varied outputs associated with maintaining the UPDES permit.
2. Observe processes, flows, wastewater characteristics, and discharges and identify abnormal conditions.
3. Keep records, interpret data from discharge monitoring report, diagnose issues, and process prepare control reports, including monthly DMR reports.
4. Monitor and troubleshoot issues with the SCADA system.
5. Oversee general grounds and building maintenance duties; performance of preventative maintenance; repair plant equipment and small engines; respond to emergency calls.
6. Resolve operational problems; handle more complex disposal processes; perform other related duties as required.
7. Actively ensure that safety procedures and regulations are followed; operate a variety of applicable heavy equipment, including snowplows, safely and effectively.
8. Management and oversight of WWTP facility staff.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Work Experience, Education and Physical Requirements:
1. Minimum of four years of wastewater management experience with an active Utah level IV Operator certification, or ability to obtain in a timely manner.
2. Demonstrated ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following instructions, given either orally or in writing, of a supervisor.
3. General knowledge of various types of equipment used in the building trades.
4. Ability to lift and properly move at least 50 lbs. Good general physical condition is a must.
5. Ability to run and interpret plant test results to ensure proper operations.
6. Capable of climbing ladders and stairs, steadily navigate catwalks and platforms, and ability to bend, stoop, and kneel often.
7. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is exposed to raw sewage daily.
8. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
9. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
10. Ability to work well with others and the public as needed.
11. Must possess competent computer skills and be able to navigate internet and Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word.
