About The Role
As an Irrigation Technician in our Irrigation department, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems for residential and commercial properties. This hourly, full-time position requires someone who is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, can diagnose and resolve system issues efficiently, and is committed to delivering high-quality service. You will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure that landscapes are properly watered, systems operate efficiently, and clients receive prompt, professional support.
What You'll Do
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair residential and commercial irrigation systems, including valves, controllers, piping, fittings, and sprinkler heads
- Perform seasonal system start-ups, winterizations, and routine inspections to ensure optimal performance and water efficiency
- Diagnose and repair leaks, wiring issues, coverage problems, and malfunctioning components using appropriate tools and methods
- Program, adjust, and optimize irrigation timers, controllers, and smart irrigation technologies according to site conditions and water restrictions
- Conduct site assessments to evaluate water coverage, pressure, and system layout, recommending improvements or upgrades as needed
- Read and interpret site plans, drawings, and specifications to properly install or modify irrigation systems
- Work safely with hand tools, power tools, plumbing equipment, and underground locating equipment while following all safety protocols
- Document work performed, materials used, and time on site in service tickets or work orders with clear, accurate notes
- Communicate professionally with customers on-site, explaining findings, recommended repairs, and system operation in clear terms
- Coordinate with supervisors, designers, and other crew members to schedule work, prioritize tasks, and complete projects on time
- Monitor inventory on the service vehicle or in the shop and report material needs to ensure readiness for upcoming jobs
- Comply with company policies, local codes, and environmental best practices related to water conservation and irrigation design
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an irrigation technician, landscaper with irrigation responsibilities, or in a similar field service role
- Working knowledge of irrigation system components, including valves, controllers, piping, sprinkler heads, drip systems, and backflow devices
- Ability to diagnose and repair common irrigation problems such as leaks, broken heads, wiring faults, and coverage issues
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks such as digging, lifting, and carrying equipment
- Basic understanding of hydraulic principles, water pressure, and flow as they relate to irrigation performance
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, irrigation layouts, and basic technical diagrams
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and water-efficient practices
- Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in simple terms
- Reliable transportation to job sites and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (if required by the employer)
- Ability to use smartphones or tablets for work orders, routing, and documentation
