Position Summary
This paid Summer Intern position offers a high school student hands-on experience in water and wastewater operations, focusing on shadowing certified operators, collecting environmental samples, conducting basic lab tests, and assisting with facility maintenance. The intern will learn about treatment processes, systems, and compliance, aiming to understand environmental protection careers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operations Support: Assist with routine plant operations, including monitoring systems and observing adjustments to treatment processes.
- Field Sampling: Support water and wastewater sampling activities in the field, ensuring proper labeling and handling.
- Laboratory Assistance: Learn and perform basic, safe laboratory testing on water/wastewater samples.
- Maintenance & Safety: Assist with maintenance tasks, cleaning equipment, and inspecting facilities. Observe strict safety protocols and hazard assessments.
- Documentation: Assist with data entry, recordkeeping, and filling out daily reports.
- Groundskeeping: Assist with general maintenance and cleaning of facility grounds.
Education/Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school (minimum age 16+) or recent graduate.
- Interest in science, environmental studies, engineering, or mechanical trades.
- Basic understanding of math and science concepts.
- Strong work ethic, ability to follow directions, and eager to learn.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat and noise.
