Job Summary
The Wastewater Operator manages the operations of an Industrial wastewater system to ensure regulatory procedures and reporting practices are maintained and in compliance. Oversees removal of metals and pollutants by filtering, precipitation, and chemical reactions. Requires a Massachusetts wastewater grade 4 certification or higher and at least 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Responsibilities and Duties
Primary responsibilities
- Control equipment and monitor processes that remove solids, chemicals, adjust solutions from industrial and laboratory effluents streams.
- Run tests to make sure that treatment processes are working correctly.
- Keep records of water quality and other compliance indicators.
- Operate pumps, motors, filters, and other related equipment that moves slurries and wastewater through recovery and purification systems.
- Monitor level indicators, gauges and meters at various locations within the plant and make adjustments as necessary.
- Take samples, run analytical tests and interpret results to make adjustments and determine the quality of the discharge water being produced.
- Calibrate pH and OPR measuring devices and other analytical instrumentation used to manage processes.
- Use computerized systems to monitor plant processes and manage related data.
- Do preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, filters, resin columns and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Order supplies.
- Operate forklifts.
Qualifications and Skills
Associates Degree in Wastewater Treatment, Chemistry, Technology or equivalent experience.
Massachusetts wastewater grade 4 required grade .
