Full Job Description
Job: Certified Class 3 Water Plant Operator or Certified Class 4 Water Plant Operator.
Minimum requirement:
High School or GED required; previous experience in Water Plant treatment process, MUST HOLD A Class 3 or class 4 Water treatment licenses from the Department of Health
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to operate 1.0 – 1.5 MGD Surface Water Treatment plant facility in compliance with federal, Louisiana State and local regulations.
Essential Function:
Performs all aspects of operation, sampling, monitoring, performing laboratory analysis, physically check equipment to ensure correct operation feed, dosages, and calibrations necessary to properly operate the plant. Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts (7 days on and 7 days off) 12-hour shift
Assist in the performance of regular and unscheduled repairs and maintenance of plant equipment; change and connect 1 ton chlorine cylinders and other specialized water treatment plant equipment, monitor chemical feed, and calibration of all testing instruments.
Collect potable water samples and perform laboratory analysis such as pH, turbidity, total and free chlorine, Manganese, Harness, alkalinity, free ammonia, and chloramine. Properly mix and calculate the number of pounds needed of polymers and filter aid, to ensure the flocculation and sedimentation process is optimized to ensure State and federal regulatory turbidity level of 0.300 NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Units)
Monitor the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCDA) system for any changes that may impact the Water Plant processes such turbidity limits, chemical feed pumps faults, distribution flows, storage tank levels and switching RPM’s for controlling distribution pressure.
Preparing daily and Monthly reports and records, completing forms and spreadsheets of lab data into the computer, and monitoring telephone calls and responding to customers complaints.
Maintaining a safe and clean work environment around the plant and in the office to prevent accidents and follow OSHA regulations.
Continue to participate in Water plant certification classes offer by Louisiana Rual Water Association (LRWA) as per Louisiana State Certification office.

Class 3 Water Plant Operator-$24.00 per Hour
Class 4 Water Plant Operator-$25.89 per Hour
