Join our team as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and become a vital part of maintaining clean, safe, and efficient water treatment operations. The Borough of Oakmont is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to help run and maintain our 1.62 MGD Extended Aeration Activated Sludge Facility, including aerobic digestion, a centrifuge, and three pump stations. In this energetic role, you will be responsible for operating and monitoring wastewater treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, and supporting the overall health of our water systems. Your proactive approach will help safeguard public health and protect our environment through diligent plant management and continuous process optimization.
Duties
- Operate and control wastewater treatment processes using programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS) to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment, including pumps, valves, tanks, and heavy machinery, performing necessary repairs or maintenance to prevent downtime.
- Collect and analyze data related to water quality parameters, process efficiency, and system performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Perform plumbing tasks and mechanical repairs on treatment units to maintain system integrity and functionality.
- Monitor water treatment processes, adjusting chemical dosing or flow rates as needed based on analysis results.
- Assist in troubleshooting system issues by analyzing control system data and implementing corrective actions promptly.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with wastewater treatment operations or related water treatment fields.
- Mechanical knowledge with the ability to repair and maintain complex equipment.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and distributed control systems (DCS).
- Strong analysis skills for interpreting data collection results and making informed decisions.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting, heavy equipment operation, and physical tasks associated with plant maintenance or construction projects.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to chemical dosing, flow measurements, and system adjustments.
