Assists in cutting, fitting, laying, repairing, cleaning and flushing of water mains and services; assists in performing all allied construction or maintenance work in the installation, maintenance, repair or replacement of the water system; assists in the repair and installation of valves and hydrants; assists in the repair of meters and detector check mechanisms, disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, replacing worn parts, reassembling and testing for accuracy and leaks; assists in meter installations; learns to operate a truck, backhoe, other heavy construction equipment, and a variety of hand tools and air and electric power tools, including jackhammers, tampers, pumps, and air compressors, which are used in water system construction and maintenance work; cleans and maintains hand and power tools; performs minor servicing to assigned vehicles and equipment, reporting mechanical or other problems; keeps truck stocked with materials and supplies; completes afterhours classes and receives on-the-job instruction and training to become progressively more skilled and able to work more independently; works under emergency conditions when called any time during a 24-hour period subject to provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Burbank and the Burbank City Employees’ Association; drives on City business.
