Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site/field position based in Exeter, RI for a Public Water System Operator. This position will be responsible for working with senior staff to operate, maintain, and monitor multiple public water treatment and distribution systems in compliance with Federal and RI/MA regulations. The Operator will be responsible for conducting routine inspections, maintenance and repairs, regulatory compliance water sampling, and for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of water treatment and distribution systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) to three (3) years of relevant work experience and/or education
- Ability to obtain Certification as a Drinking Water Operator in the state of Rhode Island certification within six months of hire, or current certification
- Experience with water treatment and distribution systems, including pumps, filters, and chemical feed systems
- Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical and/or instrumentation systems;
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and maps
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to maintain healthy working relationships with clients and on-site personnel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to take part in a rotating on-call schedule; on-call work is paid at OT rates with stand-by pay
- Ability to use Excel and possess basic technical aptitude
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of EPA and RI/MA regulations related to drinking water treatment and distribution
- Experience with Drinking Water/Wastewater/Stormwater Sampling Procedures, Chain of Custody preparation, and sample transport
- Experience working with electronic and peristaltic chemical feed pumps
- Active Drinking Water Treatment or Distribution License in RI or MA
- Previous plumbing/apprenticeship experience
- Previous warehouse/logistics experience
- Associate or Bachelor Degree or Certificate Program equivalent experience in water treatment, environmental science, or a related field
