EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThe Wastewater Plant Operator is a technical position that learns the principles and practices of wastewater treatment and how to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in routine operation and maintenance of the District’s wastewater collection system and treatment plant including biological nutrient removal (BNR), anaerobic digestion, and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection processes. Learns the daily operational controls and monitoring of plant processes including maintaining appropriate records and logs. This is the entry level position in the wastewater plant operator series that receives on-the-job training and experience while performing routine duties, in a team environment, on an assigned shift under supervision. As experience and proficiency are gained, assignments will become more varied and difficult with an increase in responsibility and self-performance. Incumbents may advance to the higher-level class after gaining the knowledge, skills, experience and certifications that meet the qualifications for and demonstrate the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.
