Role Description:
Full time role for a Distribution Operator I located in the City of Maricopa. The distribution operator performs a variety of semi-skilled work to maintain water wells, chemical feeder equipment, pumps, motors, telemetry sensory equipment, treated water storage facilities, water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances, sanitary sewers for the collection of wastewaters, pumping equipment for water and wastewater, and water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and operations. Additionally, the operator may be subject to on-call work, emergency call back work and subject to shift work that may include nights and weekends.
Primary Duties and Qualifications:
· Performs moderate technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities.
· Conducts all company work related efforts and activities within the rules, regulations, and responsibilities of the most current company safety policy and OHSA regulation.
· The Operator will respond to operational emergencies as deemed necessary by his/her supervisor.
· The Operator will assist customers with concerns of water quality, delivery, odors, vector control and treatment.
· This position may be expected to perform work outside of the primary areas of responsibility. It may also need to provide technical and/or physical assistance to other operations personnel, contractors, developers, and any other duties assigned.
- Install pumps for use in lift stations; maintain and repair lift stations as necessary.
- Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of resources.
- Delivers outstanding customer service. Establishes and maintains open communication with all internal and external customers; to include co-workers, contractors, residents, and other Utility departments. Informs immediate supervisor of daily operations, important developments, and work activities.
· Adheres to industry and Utility safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures. Provides services in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
· Executes routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions of infrastructure or equipment utilized in the water distribution division.
· Maintains the integrity of landscaping, checks storage tanks and electrical panels, adjusts chemical feed rates, and completes work orders.
· Assists in the installation, maintainance, replacement, and repair of water mains, water service connections, fire hydrants, valves, and related appurtenances. Notifies customers of water service interuptions in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
· Operates, inspects, and maintains water distribution infrastructure; logs daily records; Interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts and instruments, and adjusts accordingly; performs sampling and detects mechanical or process deficiencies and communicates findings to the supervisor.

Physical Demands: Sitting for extended periods; prolonged periods of time with repetitive motions of hands and fingers; close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus; climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain; use fingers to grasp and move small objects; ability to hear and recognize sounds; able to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet; able to utilize personal protective equipment as appropriate for safety. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty pounds.
Facial hair for operations personnel shall not be allowed at points where the SCBA face piece is designed to contact and seal with the face (i.e. chin and jawline). Sideburns and mustaches will be trimmed and well-groomed as determined by the Operators Manager.
Work is performed in an office and outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise from construction site heavy equipment and inclement weather.
Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to high school degree or equivalency.
Certifications and Other Requirements:
· ADEQ Grade I Operator License in Water Distribution and/or CDL.
· Ability to obtain ADEQ Grade I Water Distribution Operator License within six (6) months of employment.
Writing: Work requires the ability to write work orders, memos, letters, reports and keep accurate daily records at well sites, lift stations and treatment facilities.
Managerial: Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill.
Experience: Minimum of six months’ experience in a related field.
Time Management: Ability to complete repairs and tasks in a timely fashion.
Policy/Decision Making: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.
Technical Skills: Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.
General: Must have satisfactory outcome of drug testing, criminal record checks, motor vehicle record, and employment records prior to starting employment.
Licenses: Must have a valid Class B Arizona driver’s license with no restrictions.
Location: Primary location will be the Global Water Center located in the City of Maricopa.
