Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Industrial Hygienist to assess indoor environmental conditions across residential and commercial properties. This role is hands‑on and field‑focused, involving:
- Moisture mapping
- Mold assessments
- Fire/smoke/soot evaluations
- Matterport 3D scanning
- Drone‑based aerial documentation
The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, safety‑conscious, and comfortable working in varied, sometimes challenging environments. You will support property owners, insurance professionals, and internal teams with accurate documentation and expert field analysis.
Primary Responsibilities
Fire, Smoke & Soot Loss Assessments
- Conduct detailed post‑fire inspections including:
- Exterior structural damage
- Attics and roof structures
- HVAC systems and ducting
- Chimneys, vents, and other hard‑to‑access components
- Document soot patterns, smoke migration, and building material impacts.
- Support insurance claim documentation and restoration planning.
Drone‑Based Aerial Documentation
- Capture aerial photos and video for roofs, chimneys, vents, and elevated/exterior areas.
- Enhance inspection accuracy for fire losses and inaccessible structures.
- FAA Part 107 certification required or willingness to obtain — company‑paid.
- Moisture Mapping
- Use moisture meters, thermo‑hygrometers, and IR cameras to identify water‑impacted materials.
- Track moisture migration and determine drying requirements.
- Produce accurate sketches, photos, floor plans, and moisture logs.
- Communicate findings to internal teams and clients.
Mold Assessments
- Conduct mold assessments following industry and NY State standards.
- Identify microbial growth, moisture conditions, ventilation issues, and building defects.
- Collect air, surface, and cavity samples with proper chain‑of‑custody.
- Prepare written reports with remediation and prevention recommendations.
Matterport 3D Scanning
- Capture high‑quality 3D scans of residential and commercial structures.
- Ensure complete visual coverage of impacted areas and building materials.
- Upload, label, and organize scans per company protocols.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare professional field reports, diagrams, and photographic documentation.
- Use mobile apps and digital platforms to record and submit findings.
- Maintain consistency, accuracy, and high-quality deliverables.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all PPE and site safety protocols.
- Identify and escalate structural, electrical, environmental, or microbial hazards.
- Comply with NYS mold assessor requirements.
Collaboration & Customer Interaction
- Represent UPA professionally during all site visits.
- Communicate clearly with property owners, tenants, adjusters, and project partners.
- Coordinate appointments and access to minimize repeat trips.
Qualifications
- Experience in industrial hygiene, environmental assessments, restoration, water damage, or building diagnostics.
- Ability to independently perform moisture mapping and mold assessments.
- Strong proficiency with field tech (tablets, moisture meters, Matterport cameras).
- Valid driver’s license and local travel availability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- NYS Mold Assessor License (or willingness to obtain).
- IICRC certifications (WRT, AMRT, etc.).
- Experience with fire-damage or insurance-claim environments.
- OSHA 10/30 or related safety certifications.
Work Environment
- Field-based work in residential, commercial, and construction/restoration settings.
- Exposure to damp, humid, dusty, fire-damaged, or temperature-variable conditions.
- Work in crawl spaces, attics, basements, mechanical rooms, and confined spaces.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Safely navigate stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, and wet areas.
- Lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Work in restricted spaces while wearing PPE (respirators, gloves, suits).
- Clear visual and auditory awareness required for safe field operations.
