The Pinery Water and Wastewater District is seeking an experienced wastewater mechanic/operator to become a strong piece of our team which prides ourselves in providing exceptional customer service. The Pinery WWD is a water and wastewater service provider located in eastern Douglas County dedicated to providing "Quality Water for LIFE" to nearly 15,000 customers.
Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check and drug test prior to commencement of employment. Compensation is competitive and dependent upon qualifications; starting pay is targeted at between $25.00 to $48.00 per hour. Works under the supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent.
The Pinery Wastewater Treatment Facility is a renowned Bardenpho Nutrient Removal water reclamation facility with capacity to treat 2.0 MGD, followed by tertiary water treatment filters for enhanced chemical phosphorous removal. Our Operators perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and laboratory testing of our water reclamation systems. We ensure maximum efficiency of facility equipment utilizing preventative, predictive and emergency maintenance while taking great pride in facility cleanliness and appearance.
General qualifications for this job are detailed below. A successful candidate would have at a minimum the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- State of Colorado Wastewater "C" Operator Certification and Collections "1", or ability to obtain within 1 year.
- Have a High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Have a valid Driver's License in good standing.
- Ambitious, self-motivated with a desire to learn.
- High Mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions pertaining to all phases of wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance.
- Experience utilizing mechanical, chemical and electrical equipment in an industrial setting.
- Ability to observe, monitor and correct issues, as needed, in compliance with operating procedures, safety standards and permit requirements.
- Collaborative team member with strong individual initiative.
- Utilize a "safety" mindset when working.
- Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in work products.
- Lives within 45 minutes of the WWTP and is available to participate in a mandatory on-call rotation.
Ideal Qualifications – Wastewater Mechanic
- 3–5 years mechanical maintenance experience in wastewater, water, industrial, or similar facilities.
- Working knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, seals, valves, and solids-handling equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical systems critical to plant operations.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs.
- Experience with preventive and corrective maintenance programs and CMMS documentation.
- Advanced understanding of wastewater treatment processes and how mechanical systems support compliance.
- Familiarity with welding, fabrication, rigging, and alignment preferred.
- Basic electrical awareness and ability to work safely around energized equipment.
- Strong safety mindset with experience in confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00a.m.- 3:00p.m., with paid holidays off.
