Wastewater Plant Operator I
South Valley Water Reclamation Facility – West Jordan, UT
South Valley Water Reclamation Facility is seeking a motivated and reliable Wastewater Plant Operator to join our Facility Operations – Process Division. This position plays a critical role in protecting public health and the environment by ensuring our wastewater treatment processes operate safely and efficiently.
Schedule
This is a full-time position working a rotating 10-hour shift including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Job Summary
Under supervision, the Operator I monitors wastewater treatment processes, performs routine inspections, assists with maintenance and operational tasks, and supports biosolids processing to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and facility standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform inspection rounds of facility equipment and processes
- Document findings and report issues to supervisors
- Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs
- Calibrate and maintain chemical analyzing equipment
- Perform basic process control testing
- Assist with biosolids dewatering and drying operations
- Mix and handle treatment chemicals safely
- Record operational data and chemical usage
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of buildings and equipment
- Monitor plant security and inspect incoming loads
- Assist with emergency response situations
- Support plant tours, training, and team operations
- Complete work orders and assigned projects
- Follow all safety and operational procedures
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Utah driver’s license
- Wastewater treatment experience preferred
- Grade I Wastewater Certification preferred
- Ability to work rotating shifts and in all weather conditions
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of wastewater treatment processes
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
- Basic math and computer skills
- Knowledge of safety procedures and chemical handling
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and around wastewater, chemicals, and equipment
- Must be able to work in varying weather and temperature conditions
Salary
$48,172.25 – $52,639.12 annually
Salary based on experience and certifications.
