About the Position: Join our team at the VA Central California Healthcare System as a Water Treatment Plant Operator. You will be an integral part of our Engineering Service, responsible for managing and controlling all identified risks within the domestic and industrial water systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and Maintain Systems: Oversee equipment, instruments, meters, gauges, motors, pumps, feeders, recording, and control devices as per schedule, performing routine operator maintenance.
- Adjust and Control: Manage valves, controllers, programs, and pumps to monitor and treat domestic water systems in the Boiler Plant and the medical center.
- Quality Assurance: Stay informed on the quality of water supplied by local utilities and facility wells, responding appropriately to variations.
- Repair and Maintenance: Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on disinfection injection systems including chlorine dioxide, monochloramine, copper/silver, etc.
- Water Testing: Conduct water treatment tests and measurements requiring knowledge of various microbiological organisms.
- Technical Support: Provide technical and administrative assistance to comply with legislative and accrediting requirements.
- Record Keeping: Maintain records and assist in compliance with governing jurisdictions, VHA directives, and local policies/procedures.
- Committee Participation: Be an active member in committees such as the Environment of Care Committee and Water Safety Committee.
- Infection Control: Develop, manage, and maintain an Infection Prevention & Control Plan, conduct surveillance to minimize risk of infection.
- Documentation: Generate and maintain all necessary permits, certifications, and documentation.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct building surveys to identify at-risk systems and manage system flushing and terminal device cleanliness.
- Temperature Management: Perform routine measurements of water temperatures at distal points to ensure scald prevention devices are appropriate and adjusted properly.
- Treatment for Auxiliary Systems: Practice effective water treatment for cooling towers, evaporative coolers, fountains, spas, whirlpools, and pools.
Qualifications:
- Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
- Experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing water treatment equipment.
- Working knowledge of microbiological organisms and water treatment processes.
- Ability to perform technical and administrative tasks effectively.
- Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and proactive problem-solving.
