The City of Mount Clemens is currently accepting applications for a Water Plant Operator
TYPICAL DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the Utilities Director, operates and maintains the water filtration and pumping facility on a rotating shift. Observes various gauges, meters and display screens to ensure that chemical additions, water flows and various water treatment processes are at optimum conditions. Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests. Makes adjustments to processes as directed or conditions indicate. Repairs, lubricates and maintains pumps, valves and other operating equipment on a regular basis. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Candidate chosen must possess or obtain within two years a State of Michigan F-4 Water Filtration Certificate. Continual certification is required
2. Must demonstrate a high ability for operational and mechanical skills
3. Must possess reading, writing, math, science and computer skills
4. Keep records of laboratory testing.
5. College level courses preferred
6. Must be able to work alone on assigned rotational shift, work overtime and weekends.
7. Required to be “on call” for Plant emergencies
8. Must be dependable and maintain a good attendance record
9. Previous water or wastewater experience preferred
10. Must pass respirator fit test prior to start date
11. Must possess a valid MI Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record
12. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
