Job Overview
Water/Wastewater Operator performs duties involved in the city’s water production plant and lagoons. The employee in this position is responsible for maintaining continuous operation in the water treatment facility, monitoring the city’s connections with other water systems and delivering quality, potable water to the City of Richmond, maintaining wastewater operations, testing both systems, maintaining maintenance on both systems and ensuring public health and environmental safety. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work. This employee participates in the operation and maintenance of plant facilities, machinery and equipment.
Duties
- Checks and tests equipment regularly;
- Monitoring operating conditions, collecting and testing water and wastewater samples, and analyzing data to ensure water quality meets standards.
- Chemical Treatment to disinfect water and ensure it’s safe
- Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving problems with equipment, processes or water quality.
- Maintaining accurate records of operational data, test results, and maintenance.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations
- Supports other departments on projects
- Other related duties as deemed necessary or as required.
Experience
One to three years of water/wastewater treatment experience is preferred.
Skills
General knowledge of water/ wastewater treatment processes and operations, safety procedures, equipment operation and maintenance, and chemical usage. Mathematical aptitude to calculate chemical addition for water treatment procedures. The ability to operate chemical feeders, pumping equipment, water testing equipment and other departmental equipment.
Problem Solving & Decision-Making
Problem solving is a factor in this position. Problems include maintenance of water treatment plant facilities, determining the type and amount of chemicals to add or remove from the water to achieve quality standards.
Salary and Hours
The pay scale for this position is $20 - $25 per hour. This is a fulltime position, 40 hours per week, KPERS, Health Insurance, 12 paid holidays, plus sick and vacation. Pay is based off qualifications. Some weekends necessary, no more than 2 hours.
