Hours: Four days on / four days off – 12-hour shifts, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
Rate of Pay: $26.61–$31.00 per hour
SUMMARY Join the City of Fort Wayne Utilities team as a Plant Operator ensuring clean water and environmental safety for our community. This position operates and maintains water and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring compliance with IDEM and EPA standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and regulate treatment processes, pumps, and equipment
- Collect samples and perform laboratory tests for quality control
- Adjust chemical feeds and treatment rates as needed
- Maintain security and safety procedures at facilities
- Record data, complete logs, and report operational issues
- Assist with preventive maintenance, inspections, and chemical deliveries
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED and two years related experience
- Science-related degree preferred
- Must obtain required certifications (Wastewater Class II within 3 years, WT-5 within 4 years)
- Valid Indiana Driver's License and CPR/First Aid certification
- Ability to read technical documents, perform mathematical calculations, and follow safety procedures
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, chemicals, and outdoor weather
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs, loud noise levels, and wastewater environments
